About the event
Sandwich is a word that you use everyday! Yummy!
We all love these slices of bread but do you know about the actual town and the good Earl of Sandwich who actually have made this tasty fast food famous?
Probably not! Well to be fair, even the Earl of Sandwich has not much to do with the actual town, he was supposed to be called the Earl of Portsmouth ,where he lived, but his name has been changed as a compliment to the historic town who was part of the powerful Cinqe ports ( 5 harbours in French)a very important and well preserved town.
Do you see where I am going? ... no me neither, nevertheless, he created the Porthmouth in the 18th century, as it should have been called, I mean the Sandwich, that had nothing to do with it or with the Earl himself SO!
After this tiny bit of history, let me tell you, come and join us on a lovely trip by the sea, in a nature reserve where we will hopefully be able to spot the resident harbour seals and walk the beach, marshes and medieval streets of this pretty little town.
We might spot birds such as the short eared owls who spend the winter in the bay along with many other waders and migrating birds so take your cameras and binoculars.
As usual, we are likely to end up in a pub or restaurant with those who wish and we will surely have a wonderful time with the rest of our lovely hikers.
