About the event

Alright hikers, birders, photographers and wildlife lovers! Time to get a bit of fresh air and visit London's two most exquisite places for wildlife! We will meet at 8 am at East Putney station for a day out full of beauty.

October kicks off the rutting season for the impressive red deer. And what a best way to do so than by witnessing one of nature's most impressive shows, the red deer rut, the matting season.

Stags fight and the winner does not just mate with a female, but with the whole of them in the herd. The older, the stronger up to a certain age where the old king of the herd is replaced by a stronger male. This is the time and place for photography, we will approach at a close but safe distance, even though the herds are used to the public, they must be respected and their hormonal level will be so high that they won't make the difference between you and a rival so let's witness the magical of nature while giving them so space, and keeping you safe, they are not pets but wild animals so please respect them.

Richmond Park is also home to many birds, owls being my favourites, we will have a scope for the little owls. A day hunting bird of prey that can be spotted in several places. Of course, I cannot garanti any owls, but to be fair, I see them most of the time and I now know 7 different locations so we likely to have a glimpse at those beautiful fluffy things. Owls are an important part of Britain's rural areas and luckily, they have adapted to our cities. We will spend a couple of hours in the park then will make our way to the famous London wetland centre; those who wish anyway. The entrance is £17 and you will have access to a birding paradise, you never know what will turn up, snipes are very likely, jack snipes if you get lucky, kestrels, godwits, pintails and about every ducks you can dream of, water rails and the star of the place, the Elusive bittern... I saw the bittern so many times last year that I got a bit tired of it so if we have a lucky day... I am famously good to spot the hidden rarities so come and join me for a surprise bird trip near my home.
