About the event
I am taking you on a journey into a world of cuteness where not carrying your camera will be a huge mistake!
LET'S GO SEE THE BABY SEALS!
After the success of a weekend visit, a few people have asked me to organise a day trip so here we go!
Norfolk is THE place where you can see one of Britain's and the natural world most fantastic show; the grey seals breeding season, January and February are the peak of the season when the beaches between Horsey and Winterton are home to some 10000 seals, yes, you read well.
Norfolk holds the world's two largest Atlantic grey seals colonies and I am taking you there. You will be able to observe at often just a couple of meters away the seals who come to these sandy beaches every year to give birth to those gorgeous white furry creatures.
You will not get enough of it, believe me.
We will be able to observe seals of every ages from the tiny few hours old white pups, to the full fat adolescents and up to the big males who weight hundreds of kilos and who will be fighting a bit further down on the sand. Volunteers will be there to answer all our questions and to keep us from getting too close to those beautiful creatures, often unsuccessfully as those cubs being of a curious nature will approach us often far too close to inspect us.
The seals will be the highlight of or trip but will not be our only journey.
We will hike the dunes of the Broads nature reserve and visit the stunning surrounding villages.
To cut our travel time by 2.5 hours we will take a fast train and a short bus journey and will hike around 8 miles, 5 or the whole of those will be right next to these absolutely gorgeous creatures, that will be your choice, they will be all over the place 😄.
As we have learned this weekend, be prepared to take an alternative route for a few minutes if the mothers and pubs make their way to the path. They usually stay on the beach but the recent storm have driven them in the dunes and on the path meaning that, if you get too close, you dd better get ready to run cause mummies protect they pups.🤣
Babies will be wandering alone around us, they will come towards you but please, please, I cannot stress enough, do not touch them and step back as the mother will abandon them if you do.
We will get a meal before we get the train back at 7 pm.
