A Relax Coastal hike; Roman Tower, seaside and food: Birchington to the Bays

Let's take a seaside trip along the Northern part of the Coast of Kent.

We will begin our trip in the seaside town of Birchington on Sea and walk along the Coast towards Herne Bay where the imposing twin towers of the medieval church at Reculver dominate the skyline of this coastline.

The towers were a navigation marker for ships at sea. This was the site of one of the earliest Roman forts built against Saxon raids on the 'Saxon Shore'. It later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church for Reculver.

The sand banks at sea are home to a colony of harbour seals, if we are lucky we might spot one or two swimming in the North Sea so keep your eyes open.

This hike is good for beginners and passionate hikers alike, it will be a lazy day by the sea, we will walk until we get fed up and will get back on the train at either Herne Bay or Whitstable and if you wish, we will as usual grab some food or drinks after the trip. ( There is a delightful Turkish restaurant that is so good that we should go there even just for it :) )

We will not be rushing, I will be taking it easy, nevertheless, it will be a wonderful day out filled with laughers and fun.

Waterproof shoes for the hike, preferably hiking shoes, otherwise good trainers;

Weather appropriate clothes, including waterproofs if there is a chance of rain

A WhatsApp group will be created a few days before the trips, noone is forced to join of course, but I will post additional information on it, we usually also exchange photos of the beautiful day.

Our trips will not be cancelled due to weather conditions so please ensure that you do wear and carry appropriate clothing. 😄
